Guarantees
Whisky as an investment comes with some certainties, but as with any investment, there are also risks.
-
Registration code
Every bottle of whisky and cask has a unique product identification number linked to the owner's account. This allows the owner of a bottle or cask of whisky to always be determined.
-
Quality
All the bottles in casks listed on THE SWEX are verified for quality.
-
Secure storage
All bottles traded through THE SWEX are stored in the vault of Scotch Whisky Investments in the Netherlands and are 100% insured at market value.
-
Storage
The whisky is stored in various customs depots in Scotland and in a vault in the Netherlands.
-
Legal property
You are the legal and economic owner of all (future) bottles you buy through THE SWEX.
-
Authenticity
All bottles listed on THE SWEX are checked to make sure all products are authentic.
Risks
-
Investment risks
To reduce investment risk, it is wise to diversify your portfolio. Single Malt Scotch Whisky represents a comprehensive, innovative addition to a diversified portfolio, but as with any investment, there are also risks.
-
Value development
Ultimately, supply and demand determine the price for a (future) bottle of whisky. The value and returns are therefore dependent on market forces.
-
Liquidity
Depending on the market, finding a buyer for your whisky investment may take some time. Redeeming the products in your account may take longer than desired.
-
Responsibility
As an investment platform, THE SWEX provides guarantees regarding the authenticity, quality, and quantity of bottles and cask whisky to buyers and sellers, provided that the bottles are stored and insured by SWI. In transactions, the seller is responsible for the delivered product.
-
Loss of quality
Not all distillate that goes into a cask ends up in a bottle or retains its original quality. Unexpected reactions can occur during the maturation process in the cask, potentially influencing the quality of the whisky. Because water can seep into the wood of a cask, it may affect the quality of the whisky. Also, some of the whisky in the cask may evaporate, the so-called Angel’s Share. Bottles are also susceptible to quality loss. If a bottle is not properly sealed, its quality may deteriorate.
THE SWEX guarantees the quality of the products offered, with quality management conducted by Scotch Whisky Investments (see also Quality Compensation). SWI guarantees that every whisky traded on the SWEX has a score of 80 based on the Whiskybase score.
